THE REGULATIONS OF THE ARMENIAN
CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 AND 2009
Armenian Men Championship
The 68th Armenian men chess championship is a round robin tournament with 12-14 participants which will take place during 7-21 January, 2008 in Yerevan.
The following people can participate in this tournament: Grandmasters, those who have shared 1-5 places in the 67th Championship as well as those who have shared 1-2 places in the first league of the 68th Championship. The participants must confirm their participation by December 25, 2007.
Four chess players who have the highest average FIDE rating (on the 1 October, 2007 and 1 January, 2008 lists) plus one participant who took the highest place at the Armenian Men Championship will be included in the Armenian team for the World Chess Olympiad. If the participant takes 1-4 places at the Armenian Championship, he receives an invitation to the European Individual Chess Championship.
The quarter final tournament of the 69th Championship will be held during 10-20 May, 2008 in Jermuk. It is a Swiss tournament with 9 rounds.
From the Marzes the following number of participants are allowed: Lori: 6; Shirak: 5; Kotayk, Syunik: 4; Armavir: 3; Ararat, Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, Tavush: 2; and Nagorno Karabakh: 2.
The organizer to his discretion can allow the participation of an additional 2 chess players.
The semifinal of 2009 Championship /Yerevan Open Championship/ will take place during 10-20 June, 2008. It is a 9 rounds Swiss tournament where can participate
• International, FIDE and National Masters, women Grandmasters and International Masters,
• Chess players who have 2301 and above national rating,
• The participants of the high league of the 68th Armenian Championship,
• One chess player from Shirak, Lori, Syunik and NKR (according to the standings of Marz Championship)
• The participants who took 1-7 places at the Yerevan Championship /semifinal/,
• The participants who took 1-7 places at the Armenian Championship /semifinal/,
• The participants who took 1-5 places at the Armenian Championship /under 18/,
• The participants who took 1-5 places at the Armenian Championship /under 16/,
• The participants who took 1-3 places at the Armenian Championship /under 14/,
• The participant who took the first place at the Armenian Championship /under 12/,
• The participants who took 1-4 places at the Armenian Women Championship,
• The participants who took 1-10 places at the Armenian Chess House Tournament after Tigran L. Petrosian.
The first league of the 69th Armenian Championship will be held in November, 2008. It is a round robin tournament with 10-12 participants. The following people can participate in this tournament:
• International Grandmasters whose average international rating from the previous 2 rating lists is not above 2550,
• International Masters whose average international rating from the previous 2 rating lists is 2500 and above,
• The participants who took 1-7 places at the Armenian Championship /semifinal/.
In case of necessity the list of the participants is to be filled by the results of the first league.
Armenian Women Championships
The high league of the Armenian women championship, 2007 takes place 15-24 January in Yerevan with 10 participants. In this round robin tournament can participate:
• The prize winners of 1-3 places at the Armenian women championship 2006 /high league/,
• Women Grandmasters and International Masters,
• One woman chess player from the Chess House Championship, 2006,
• The participants who took 1-3 places at the Armenian selective tournament, November 2006.
The participants must assure their participation by January 5. In case of necessity the list of the participants of high league is to be filled by the results of the qualification tournament.
In the European Championship Armenian team includes 4 chess players, who have the highest average FIDE rating on the 1st October, 2006 and 1st January, 2007 and participant took the highest place at the Armenian Women Championship. The champion of the Armenian Women Championship will receive an invitation to the European Individual Chess Championship.
The qualification semifinal tournament of 2008 Championship /Yerevan Open Chess Championship, Semifinal/ will be held during 10-20 May, in Yerevan. It is an 8-9 rounds Swiss tournament. In this tournament can participate chess players who have a national rating of 2001 and above.
Armenian Juniors Championship
Semifinal tournaments of the Armenian juniors championship will take place 13-22 April, 2007 in Yerevan with the following groups.
a) Participants who were born until and in the year of 1997 /under 10/,
b) Participants who were born in the year of 1995 and after /under 12/,
c) Participants who were born in the year of 1993 and after /under 14/,
d) Participants who were born in the year of 1991 and after /under 16/,
e) Participants who were born in the year of 1989 and after /under 18/,
“a”, “b”, “c”, “d” tournaments are 9 rounds Swiss tournaments. The tournament “d” can run with 8 rounds. For these tournaments final of Yerevan Juniors Championship /9-18 February/ and semifinal of the Republic Juniors Championship /1-10 March, Yerevan/ are selective. Selective tournaments run in different age groups with 9 rounds, Swiss.
In “a”, “b”, “c”, “d” tournaments can participate
• The participants who took 1-3 places in his age group at the Armenian Juniors Championship, 2006
• The participants from Gyumri and Vanadzor: 4, Kotayk and Syunik marzes: 3, NKR and Armavir marzes: 2. By the way, no more than 2 chess players can apply from the same age group.
“a”, “b”, “c”: 16 players from the Yerevan Juniors Championship and 8 players from the Republic semifinal tournament.
“d”: 10 players from Yerevan and 6 players from Marzes.
“a”: players who have 2001 and above national rating,
“b”: players who have 2076 and above national rating,
“c”: players who have 2126 and above national rating,
“d”: players who have 2175 and above national rating,
The tournament “e” is a round robin tournament with 10 participants. 5 participants are formed by the national rating list and the others are defined from the semifinal tournament where participate chess players from Yerevan and Marzes who were born after the year of 1989.
The trainers’ board of the chess federation has the special authority to allow one chess player’s participation in the all age group tournaments.
The participants during the tournaments will be covered with hotel and per diem.
Armenian Girls Championship
The high league of the Armenian women championship, 2008 takes place 12-22 January in Yerevan with 10 participants. In this round robin tournament can participate:
• The prize winners of 1-3 places at the Armenian women championship 2007 /high league/,
• Women Grandmasters and International Masters,
• One woman chess player from the Chess House Championship, 2007,
• The participants who took 1-3 places at the first league tournament, 2007.
The participants must assure their participation by December 25, 2007. In case of necessity the list of the participants of high league is to be filled by the results of the qualification tournament.

In this tournament can participate chess players who have a national rating of 2001 and above, as well as participants who took 1-10 places at the semifinal tournament.
The participants who have 2025 and above national rating will be covered with hotel and per diem during the tournament.
Armenian Club Cup Championship
The tournament will take place 15-21 March. This is a round robin tournament where each club /organization/ can represent only one team. In each team must be included 4 main and 2 reserve players. The last day of application is 15 February.
Armenian Women Club Cup Championship
The tournament will take place 15-21 March. This is a round robin tournament where each club /organization/ can represent only one team. In each team must be included 4 main and 1 reserve players. The last day of application is 15 February.
Armenian Rapid Chess Championship
The final tournament will take place on 27 January. This is a Swiss tournament with 8-9 players, time control is 15 minutes for each game. In this tournament can participate men and women Grandmasters, International, FIDE and National Masters, and participants who have 231 and above rating, 20 players from Yerevan rapid chess open tournament, 6 players from T. Petrosian chess house.
