Armenian chess players are among the leaders

One round remains until the end of the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026, taking place in Italy.

In the penultimate round, Armenian GM Haik Martirosyan drew with two-time World Chess Championship challenger GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, while GM Mamikon Gharibyan defeated 2613-rated GM Leon Luke Mendonca.

Before the last round, GM Haik Martirosyan and GM Mamikon Gharibyan have 6 points out of 8 and are among the tournament leaders.

Indian GM Murali Karthikeyan and German GM Frederik Svane have 6.5 points.

GM Emin Ohanyan has 5.5 points, while FM Sargis Manukyan has 4.5 points.

The last round will start today at 11:30 Armenian time.
