We Remember and Mourn the Life and Legacy of Yuri Arustamyan

In 1953, he became the chess champion of Armenia’s “Energia” sports society.

In 1966, Yuri Arustamyan was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.

Since 1977, he had been a member of the plenary of the Armenian Chess Federation.

From 1983 to 2009, he was the Vice-President of the Armenian Chess Federation.

In 1984, he developed an electronic display device at an electrotechnical factory and donated it to the Chess House of Armenia. The device was capable of simultaneously broadcasting eight chess games on television screens. According to FIDE President Florencio Campomanes, it was the first of its kind in the world.

In 2009, he was awarded the Tigran Petrosian Gold Medal.

Yuri Arustamyan’s achievements are numerous, but above all, it was his noble human qualities that defined him most.

We deeply mourn his irreplaceable loss.
